Painting with numbers

We’ve refreshed this page with a new slideshow that paints a picture of the diversity of Chinese New Zealanders. There’s also a link to interactive graphics about population diversity and a summary of the New Zealand population as a village of 100 people. Have fun as you explore - you might be surprised!

Population density and diversity in Aotearoa New Zealand

Did you know that you can check out how ethnically diverse and closely populated different parts of the country are?

You can zoom in and out and look at the different coloured dots and see if there are a lot, or only a few.

The blue dots (sparkles) represent people with Asian ethnicity and the more blue dots there are - the more Asian people live in that area.

Take a look and see!

What would our population look like if we were a village of 100 people?
